Why PTO?

As a new mom to Watertown and a new family to Jefferson, I wanted to be involved and help out at school when I was able.  PTO is a great way to become involved!  The PTO or Parent Teacher Organization is parents helping support the teachers, staff, and students.  We do this by volunteering, raising money and creating new ideas to help benefit Jefferson Elementary.

For example, the Homecoming bake sale in September raised money for the student council to do service projects or help the school in some way.  This year, the students gave most of the money to Mrs. Anderson and her music classes.  Mrs. Anderson received a grant from the Arrow Education Foundation for ukuleles.  She needed stands to store the ukuleles properly.  PTO and student council partnered together to make this happen.

Turkey Bingo is a very successful fundraiser for the school.  Some of the items recently purchased have been flexible seating in the classrooms, extra lessons found by teachers to pair well with their curriculum, and smaller expenses like supporting Junior Achievement.  All of these examples benefit the students and gives them more opportunities than what they could have because of all of you!

Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at noon.  Kids, lunch……no problem!!  All are welcome.  (No need for daycare, just bring them along.)  All ideas are welcome.  We work with Mrs. Morrow and the teachers.  We are a team!  Like us on Facebook - Jefferson Elementary PTO Watertown SD page.  A sign up genius will be created soon for the carnival in February.

Thank you!  Lona Simon
