From the Watertown School District: We wanted to update you on an additional change to our close contact procedures. We will now allow for a student to return from a close contact situation after 10 days or after 7 days with a negative test past day 5. This is in accordance with the newly updated Department of Health recommendations. Thank you again for your continued patience with the changing landscape related to COVID.
From the Watertown School District: The South Dakota Department of Health has updated their recommendations for close contact quarantines this week. We will be making one change to our procedures here in Watertown following this announcement. Going forward, any close contact quarantine that was designated for 14 days will now be changed to 10 days. This will be effective immediately. Any students or staff members currently out for the 14 days will be allowed to return now after 10. We will be reviewing the other recommendations for possible updates to our local procedures and let you know should things change. Thank you for your patience as we adjust to the changing recommendations.
From the Watertown School District: We are thankful for all the hard work and dedication from our parents, students, and staff to get this school year rolling. Your work has not only kept learning taking place but allowed us to create a healthy school environment for students and staff. Our positive COVID numbers continue to remain low, and that will allow us to stay in person for our learning when we return on November 30. Happy Thanksgiving from the Watertown School District.
To: All Watertown Parents & Staff: Another great piece of news for those families who do not have internet access at home. That State of South Dakota announces the K-12 Connect initiative which allows qualified families to access internet at home. Eligible families should receive a mailing pertaining to this. Please follow the instructions included in the letter or from the information on the website. https://k12connect.sd.gov.
To: All Watertown Parents & Staff: Great news for all K-12 students in the Watertown School District. Free breakfast and lunch meals have been extended and will be provided through the entire 2020-21 school year to K-12 enrolled students. We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity at all buildings this school year.
The Watertown School District announces free breakfast and lunch for all students beginning October 1 and continuing through December or until federal funding runs out. Any enrolled student in K-12 is eligible for these meals. We have also changed our student close contact procedures. Beginning on October 5, if a student is masked, they would have the option of following the recommended 14-day close contact quarantine or choose to quarantine for 72 hours and come back to school masked, temp checked and socially distanced where permitted. School principals will notify you should this happen in your child's school. We are also changing the language with regards to masking from "highly recommended" to "expected." All students were given a mask to start the year, and we ask that you make sure your child has one with them each day. More details on the close contact procedures can be found at: https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/949702/Close_Contact_Student_Leave_Procedure.pdf. With this change, WHS will resume in-person classes on Mon. Oct. 5, and 7-12 activities will resume as well next week.
Due to a continued high number of COVID positive (34) and close contacts (250), Watertown High School will continue online classes for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 2. All activities will either be postponed or canceled during this week with both in-person school and activities resuming on Monday, Oct. 5. Should your child be in need of individual assistance during the week, please don't hesitate to ask. Meals can once again be picked up at the high school. We just ask that you fill out the form online at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18JUMY7hXynkVjK9EUEuLzmvbCfbShBwY_ImocdBw7bE/viewform?edit_requested=true.
Due to a high number of COVID positive cases and close contacts, Watertown High School will be going online for the remainder of the week, September 22-25. All activities will either be postponed or canceled this week. More details will be released later in the week on a possible return to in-person school as well as a resumption of activities.
