Stuart Stein with ESCO Manufacturing / Stein Sign Display is a Watertown Native and played golf for the Arrows. His passion for golf lives on today. “I’ve shot 77 in 57 minutes. No gimmies,” said Stuart. What inspires him to serve on the School Board is his mom. “My mom’s lifelong commitment to teaching is a personal inspiration for me as well as trying to make a positive difference for our school district and community.”

What’s one to two things you wish the community knew about the Watertown School District?

  • Our staff genuinely cares about the success of the students.  Despite daily obstacles, challenges, and setbacks, the passion for seeing our students succeed has never been higher.
  • There are lots of positive things happening within the school district.  Be sure to follow our social media!

What new thing would you like to learn or try?   Acoustic guitar

Jon Iverson was a Social Studies teacher at Watertown School District for 39 years. He is inspired by Thomas Jefferson, who was an integral leader in setting the foundation of public education in America. “As a School Board member I find it rewarding to walk through the different schools and see teachers and support staff interacting with students. So much great learning is taking place every day in every school,” said Jon.

What’s one to two things you wish the community knew about the Watertown School District? I wish the non-teaching community knew how hard our teachers are working. The time, energy, and patience that our teachers extend every day is incredible.

What superpower would you choose? The ability to make everyone curious. Curious people are the ones who love to learn and discover new ideas and explore new places. Curiosity is the cure for boredom….and there is no cure for curiosity!

Kari Lohr’s day job is Personal Banker at First PREMIER Bank. She watches football with her family and cheers on her two boys while they participate in various activities. When it comes to her work on the School Board, “I am helping kids get the best education that they can possibly get and (am inspired) to see these kids grow and evolve into amazing adults,” said Kari.

What’s one to two things you wish the community knew about the Watertown School District?

1. We have the best teachers in the state throughout all our schools.

2. Our Schools are very safe.

What is one thing you can’t live without? Coffee

Jean Moulton was a Librarian for the Watertown School District for 25 years and is a Watertown native. “I grew up in Watertown and attended Mellette School. I received an exceptional education. So, I am quite familiar with the high academic expectations and offerings Watertown had.   Throughout 25 years as a teacher in the district I had the privilege to teach a wonderful variety of students and work with a superb group of colleagues.  This district must continue as a great institution,” said Jean.

What’s one to two things you wish the community knew about the Watertown School District?  The jewel in the crown is Lake Area Technical College with its profound impact on business and industry of the area and state.

What hobbies, interests, recreation, etc. do you enjoy? My interests cross a wide spectrum: reading history and biographies, visiting art museums, enjoying classical music, reading and studying politics but most importantly working to enhance and to improve education in my local district and as a State Education Board member for South Dakota students.

Roshal Rossman works in Public Health for Black Hills Special Services Cooperative and is inspired by students and staff in her role as School Board Member. “Every kid deserves a quality public education. Educators have one of the toughest, but most important jobs in the world and they deserve our support,” said Roshal.

What’s one to two things you wish the community knew about the Watertown School District?

  • Watertown is a larger district in South Dakota, but it is still small enough that staff get to know students throughout their academic years and are invested in their success beyond the time in their classroom. I’m always impressed by current and former staff of Watertown School District, who can remember a student’s name years later and are genuinely interested in hearing where life has taken them.
  • I wish the community knew that everything they read on social media about the Watertown School District isn’t true.

What superpower would you choose and why?

The ability to time travel. I would love to go back in time to revisit my best memories. I wouldn’t change anything, but I would love to experience them all over again.
