The Watertown School District announces free breakfast and lunch for all students beginning October 1 and continuing through December or until federal funding runs out. Any enrolled student in K-12 is eligible for these meals. We have also changed our student close contact procedures. Beginning on October 5, if a student is masked, they would have the option of following the recommended 14-day close contact quarantine or choose to quarantine for 72 hours and come back to school masked, temp checked and socially distanced where permitted. School principals will notify you should this happen in your child's school. We are also changing the language with regards to masking from "highly recommended" to "expected." All students were given a mask to start the year, and we ask that you make sure your child has one with them each day. More details on the close contact procedures can be found at: https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/949702/Close_Contact_Student_Leave_Procedure.pdf. With this change, WHS will resume in-person classes on Mon. Oct. 5, and 7-12 activities will resume as well next week.
Due to a continued high number of COVID positive (34) and close contacts (250), Watertown High School will continue online classes for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 2. All activities will either be postponed or canceled during this week with both in-person school and activities resuming on Monday, Oct. 5. Should your child be in need of individual assistance during the week, please don't hesitate to ask. Meals can once again be picked up at the high school. We just ask that you fill out the form online at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18JUMY7hXynkVjK9EUEuLzmvbCfbShBwY_ImocdBw7bE/viewform?edit_requested=true.
Due to a high number of COVID positive cases and close contacts, Watertown High School will be going online for the remainder of the week, September 22-25. All activities will either be postponed or canceled this week. More details will be released later in the week on a possible return to in-person school as well as a resumption of activities. Meals for virtual learners are available each day between 10:45-11:25 at WHS. Please fill out the Virtual Learner Meal Order application at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18JUMY7hXynkVjK9EUEuLzmvbCfbShBwY_ImocdBw7bE/viewform?edit_requested=true.
From the Watertown School District: Thanks for helping us get things rolling here in Watertown. We are looking forward to seeing your children again on Thursday for the start of the year. The travel procedures have been updated, so please take a look at them here, https://5il.co/k1ak. Please also take a look at our Positive COVID Procedures, https://5il.co/k8nn. Hopefully this clarifies the phone message from last Friday. A reminder that restricting visitors (including parents) in the buildings this year unless an appointment is made. Best wishes on the school year ahead.
From the Watertown School District: We hope you are ready for us to begin school on Thursday, August 27. You should have received information about the Open Houses at each school already slated for next week.
1. Here is a link for the symptoms self check we are asking each family to use in the mornings before sending their children. Thank you for helping us on that one. https://5il.co/k1aj.
2. We are also asking for your assistance in the mornings with drop-off by bringing your child as close to 8:25 as possible if you are able. Schools will still be open prior for those who still need our normal drop-off.
3. We are only allowing visitors by appointment only, and you will need to be temp checked and asked some COVID related questions prior to entering the building.
4. We know there will be instances of COVID positive individuals in our buildings. You will receive a notification should your child be in proximity to the affected person. The official notification will be made by the Department of Health.
For further information, please continue to check the Covid-19 resource page at https://www.watertown.k12.sd.us/o/watertown-school-district/page/covid-19-resources--13. Thank you, and have a great school year.
