From the Watertown School District: We wanted to update you on an additional change to our close contact procedures. From the Watertown School District: The South Dakota Department of Health has updated their recommendations for close contact quarantines this week. We will be making one change to our procedures here in Watertown following this announcement. Going forward, any close contact quarantine that was designated for 14 days will now be changed to 10 days. This will be effective immediately. Any students or staff members currently out for the 14 days will be allowed to return now after 10. We will be reviewing the other recommendations for possible updates to our local procedures and let you know should things change. Thank you for your patience as we adjust to the changing recommendations.

From the Watertown School District: We are thankful for all the hard work and dedication from our parents, students, and staff to get this school year rolling. Your work has not only kept learning taking place but allowed us to create a healthy school environment for students and staff. Our positive COVID numbers continue to remain low, and that will allow us to stay in person for our learning when we return on November 30. Happy Thanksgiving from the Watertown School District.

To: All Watertown Parents & Staff: Great news for all K-12 students in the Watertown School District. Free breakfast and lunch meals have been extended and will be provided through the entire 2020-21 school year to K-12 enrolled students. We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity at all buildings this school year.

The Watertown School District announces free breakfast and lunch for all students beginning October 1 and continuing through December or until federal funding runs out. Any enrolled student in K-12 is eligible for these meals. We have also changed our student close contact procedures. Beginning on October 5, if a student is masked, they would have the option of following the recommended 14-day close contact quarantine or choose to quarantine for 72 hours and come back to school masked, temp checked and socially distanced where permitted. School principals will notify you should this happen in your child's school. We are also changing the language with regards to masking from "highly recommended" to "expected." All students were given a mask to start the year, and we ask that you make sure your child has one with them each day. More details on the close contact procedures can be found at: https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/949702/Close_Contact_Student_Leave_Procedure.pdf. With this change, WHS will resume in-person classes on Mon. Oct. 5, and 7-12 activities will resume as well next week.

From the Watertown School District: We hope you are ready for us to begin school on Thursday, August 27. You should have received information about the Open Houses at each school already slated for next week. 1. Here is a link for the symptoms self check we are asking each family to use in the mornings before sending their children. Thank you for helping us on that one. https://5il.co/k1aj. 2. We are also asking for your assistance in the mornings with drop-off by bringing your child as close to 8:25 as possible if you are able. Schools will still be open prior for those who still need our normal drop-off. 3. We are only allowing visitors by appointment only, and you will need to be temp checked and asked some COVID related questions prior to entering the building. 4. We know there will be instances of COVID positive individuals in our buildings. You will receive a notification should your child be in proximity to the affected person. The official notification will be made by the Department of Health. For further information, please continue to check the Covid-19 resource page at https://www.watertown.k12.sd.us/o/watertown-school-district/page/covid-19-resources--13. Thank you, and have a great school year.
